چکیده

The lake sturgeon Acipenser fulvescens is a large, long-lived, potamodromous species that widely distributed throughout freshwater systems in the central part of North America. In this study, we used acoustic telemetry to examine seasonal distribution and movement patterns endangered Lake Sturgeon Champlain, Vermont. Acoustic tags were implanted 29 juvenile (453–874 mm TL) 19 adults (1,215–1,615 from Winooski River nearby areas Champlain between 2015 2019; detected with 23 passive receivers deployed river delta area an additional 34 Champlain. Home range analysis using lattice-based density estimator indicated home sizes same as adult spring summer but statistically larger than ranges winter. Cumulative showed overlapped shallow (<10-m) water fall. winter spring, cumulative juveniles included deepwater sites (>25 m), while remained near mouth their spawning river. Seven made long-range movements (18–34 km) during months, 13 moved back into lower section natal after overwintering This study first directly compare distribution, size, movements, habitat use large system provides baseline for further research on ecology

Growth and Appetite of Juvenile Lake sturgeon Acipenser fulvescens

–Growth rates of juvenile lake sturgeon (initial weight 8 to 9 g, temperature 17.5° C), fed twice a day on brown worms for 56 days increased from -1.5% BW/d (% body wet weight/day) at zero ration to 2.6% BW/d at a ration of 13.2% BW/d. Maintenance ration was 1.6% BW/d. Fish fed larger rations had higher energy densities and lower water content. Appetite (average volitional daily food consumptio...

Seasonal movements of non-native lake trout in a connected lake and river system

Non-native lake trout, Salvelinus namaycush (Walbaum), threaten native salmonid populations in the western United States. Effective management of lake trout requires understanding movements within connected lake and river systems. This study determined the seasonal movements of subadult lake trout in the Flathead River upstream of Flathead Lake, Montana, USA using radio telemetry. The spatiotem...

Tracking the Surface Flow in Lake Champlain

Understanding the hydrodynamics of Lake Champlain is a basic requirement for developing forecasting tools to address the lake’s environmental issues. In 2003 through 2005, surface drifting buoys were used to help characterize the circulation of the main body and northeast region (Inland Sea) of the lake. Progressive vector diagrams of over-lake winds when compared to drifter trajectories sugges...

Mass balance assessment for mercury in Lake Champlain.

A mass balance model for mercury in Lake Champlain was developed in an effort to understand the sources, inventories, concentrations, and effects of mercury (Hg) contamination in the lake ecosystem. To construct the mass balance model, air, water, and sediment were sampled as a part of this project and other research/monitoring projects in the Lake Champlain Basin. This project produced a STELL...
